I added the slit-esque accents down the legs of her dress to allow users to easily see her action-game-style movements. Thematically, Bayonetta’s color is black, so to provide symmetry, Jeanne’s color is red. It kinda looks like Pon De Lion, don’t you think? LOL (Note: Pon De Lion is a popular character in Japan.) Bayonetta is known for her long hair, so I felt that Jeanne needed to have some kind of defining trait as well. However, with Jeanne, I was able to freely deviate from those cues despite the fact she is a witch. I thought about what we could do to make her the antithesis of Bayonetta… With Bayonetta, she carried strongly held, specific design cues such as witches being black with long hair. I think the only thing that could rival a woman is another woman, which is why we decided early on that Bayonetta’s rival would be female. Since this is my second blog post on character design, I thought I would write about Bayonetta’s fateful rival, Jeanne. Sure, many saw Bayonetta as a “queer series” for years, but accepting her homosexual relationship with Jeanne and outright rejecting her heterosexual union with Luka is, essentially, biphobic. Some considered it “biphobic” to oppose this shift in Bayo’s character. Therefore, some critics argued that this recent development was out of character and erased her potential to challenge gender norms and conquer her power as a woman over a male-gazey crowd. Luka, on the other hand, mostly served as a supporting character that annoyed Bayonetta. Many assumed their relationship was romantic in nature because of suggestive writing and art. Bayonetta and Jeanne, the two last remaining Umbral Witches, had a tempestuous rivalry that blossomed into a fierce friendship. This canonically establishes Bayonetta as more heteronormative than was implied in the past. So Bayonetta (Cereza) and Luka seem to be dead, but still able to communicate in some fashion? And Viola has been named the new Bayonetta. He calls her by her “family name,” Bayonetta. He tells her that he’s going to hear it from “her father” if she’s skipping class, to which she says that there isn’t actually any class that day. In an intact version of Manhattan in the future, Viola attends college and takes supernatural-related side jobs at Rodin’s The Gates of Hell bar. “Let’s dance, baby!” is thought to mimic other Bayonettas’ “Let’s dance, boys” from past games. Therefore, Gomorrah goes rogue after the medallion breaks. In Bayonetta’s case, that Eye controlled Gomorrah. Eyes of the World control Infernal Demons. However, at that point in the fight, she’s so worn out that her Eye of the World breaks.

Now, in full control of his Strider form, he defends both of them.īayonetta deals the finishing blow to Singularity with Gomorrah. Thankfully, Luka swings in Indiana Jones-style to save the day and offers a temporary distraction to save Viola. He then takes Viola hostage in an attempt to turn the tables. The three Bayonettas combine into one ultimate form and go hand-to-hand with Singularity Definition. Just when he has her encased in rubble, she’s saved by the two other Bayonettas from Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2. Singularity then takes on his final form, Singularity Definition, and nearly kills Bayonetta.

Rosa is known for her line to young Cereza, “You didn’t cry while I was gone, did you?” That plus the recognizable light knock to her head with her pistol confirm that the current Bayonetta was Cereza from the first game and her daughter.
